Replacement Cylinders

Metal-stamped into the neck of each aviation cylinder is an ICC/DOT number which identifies the type of steel cylinder [3HT, 3AA, or 3A] and the month and the year of manufacture.

The 3HT lightweight steel cylinder has a service pressure of 1850, a useful life of 24 years, and a required hydrostat every three years. See replacement pricing below.
The 3AA standard weight steel cylinder has a service pressure of 1800 psi, an unlimited service life, and a required hydrostat every five years.
The composite or fibre wrapped cylinder has a service pressure of 1850 psi, a useful live of 15 years, and a required hydrostatic every three years.

UPGRADE YOUR CYLINDER? You may be able to replace your steel or composite cylinder with a lightweight aluminum cylinder - using your existing regulator. This would require an "adapter collar" for $130, a logbook entry and an FAA 337 Check with your local FSDO!

REFILLING YOUR CYLINDERS
There are three types of oxygen available from an industrial gas company:

aviator's breathing oxygen (ABO)
welder's oxygen
medical oxygen

All three come from the same tanks of liquid oxygen (clean, pure, inexpensive, and dry). The FAA regulations state that "...oxygen marked ABO (which meets Fed Spec BB0925a Grade A or equivalent) may be used in aircraft breathing oxygen systems." An ABO label on your oxygen cylinder will prohibit its being filled with anything but ABO. If it is not marked with an ABO label, an industrial gas company may refill it with welder's oxygen. An FBO will generally choose to have ABO in his refill station to avoid controversy.
